The darkest sky in the UAE

What is Al Quaa & why go stargazing there?

Al Quaa (also spelled Al Qua'a, Al Qua or Alqua) is a remote desert near Al Ain in Abu Dhabi, UAE. It is widely regarded as the darkest place in the UAE and the best spot to see the Milky Way near Abu Dhabi and Dubai, thanks to its distance from city light pollution.

On a clear, moonless night the Milky Way is bright enough to see with the naked eye — the galactic core arching right over the dunes. That's why Al Quaa has become the go-to Milky Way spot in the UAE for astrophotographers, stargazers and campers. Arabian Wanderers — the original Al Quaa tour operator — runs guided trips designed around the darkest nights of each month, so you get the clearest possible view with an expert host, a telescope and a warm meal under the stars. It's the best Milky Way Dubai and Abu Dhabi day-trip and the top Abu Dhabi camping site for real star gazing.

When is the best time to see the Milky Way in the UAE?

The Milky Way core is best seen in the UAE from April to September, on nights around the new moon when the sky is at its darkest. Cooler winter months (October–March) give crisp, clear skies that are ideal for general stargazing and comfortable camping.

Timing matters more than anything else for seeing the galaxy. We schedule our Al Quaa trips around the darkest nights of each month and check the forecast, so you don't have to. For a full month-by-month breakdown, read our guide to the best time to see the Milky Way in the UAE.
